Earlier this month, I took my first trip ever outside the shores of Nigeria. The media organization I work with was one of the official media partners of the 4 th African Union High Level Dialogue on Democracy, Human Rights and Governance in Africa which took place in the beautiful city of Kigali, Rwanda. And yours truly was assigned to cover the event. On arrival in Kigali, myself and some other participants were taken to Lemigo Hotel, which would be our abode for the next couple of days. After a lot of waiting around, I was finally given the key card to my room- 223. My room was very beautiful. It had a queen-size bed, beautiful lounge chair and overlooked a breathtaking landscape. Wife. ‘I ran into your wife in Tesco last month…’ Wife.Richard.Marriage. I felt like I was having an out-of-body-experience. I couldn’t breathe. I broke out in cold sweat. I felt my tummy churning. Like a flood, everything Richard said to me came cascading down my mind: ‘When I am with you, I feel the magic’. ‘I want you. All of you. I want you to be mine. In every way possible. ‘Did you have fun?' Richard asked, like a teenager who had gone to great length to please his crush and was waiting for verdict. It was our first outing. I didn't want to think of it as a date. That would make it sound somewhat official and serious. And I am not quite comfortable with labels. We had just attended a Night of Spoken Words (NSW) organized by poet and writer, Dike Chukwumerije at Sheraton Hotel, Abuja. Truth be told, I hadn't expected our first outing to be to an intellectually stimulating event like NSW. When he said we were going to Sheraton, I had assumed it was to have dinner. I had been pleasantly surprised and to be honest, I loved it. In fact, I liked the different shades of Richard I was getting to know. It has been about 6 weeks since he dropped me off at home. A few weeks ago, I accepted an invitation to hang out with a childhood friend who came into town. This friend and I have known each other for more than 10 years and naturally, I looked forward to catching up on old times and also finding out what was going on in her life. Midway into our meeting, the conversation became tilted and somewhat forced.  It became glaringly obvious that my friend and I no longer resonated with each other. We, or should I say, I have evolved quite a bit in the past years. Carrying on with the conversation became a huge struggle. This was because after we were done reminiscing about our 10 year old history; we had nothing to keep the conversational juices flowing. Whereas I was interested in finding out what my friend’s goals and aspirations for the future were, she was more interested in talking about who was married and who was still single. I couldn't move. How could I, when I was staring into the most beautiful pair of eyes I had ever seen? People who know me know that I am at least  three things when it comes to the opposite sex: a brain girl, eyes girl, and abs girl. Words will not do me justice to accurately describe how beautiful my stranger's eyes were, but I will try. He had large eye balls and I was enraptured by the light golden specks that  colored  his pupils. His eyes were unusual. Common but not common big brown eyes. There was a sense of  openness  in his eyes. But they were also enigmatic. Like there were several layers of secret buried in them. I stared and stared. I couldn't get enough. I felt like I was drowning in his eyes. I was certain they were looking into my soul. Dangerously deadly beautiful eyes. Searching. Prodding. I can't recollect how long I stood staring into my perfect stranger's eyes. 10 seconds? 1 minute? 10 minutes? Who cared about time anyw...
